To Future Sponsors,

On behalf of our Board of Directors, “Dance Therapy” Dance Your Depression Away, Inc. is submitting this letter to request your financial support of our community initiatives.

Jorge Alonso Perez founded “Dance Therapy” in 2003.  The following year, with the support of the San Antonio City Council, "Dance Therapy" introduced Latin ballroom dancing classes for seniors in three (3), nutrition sites, demonstrating the psychological and physical benefits for seniors. Now, this program is offered in 21 citywide sites.

In 2007, “Dance Therapy” became an anchor tenant at Neighborhood Place – a one-stop multi-service center launched through Making Connections-San Antonio (MC-SA), an Annie E. Casey initiative. Here “Dance Therapy” established its free Wednesday Evening Cultural Class that combines the history of dance with dance lessons. Over 50 multi-cultural, intergenerational participants attend weekly. Also in 2007, MC-SA funded a pilot project in three (3) elementary schools in SAISD, teaching young children Latin ballroom dancing and promoting community engagement.

In 2008, MC-SA funded the Dancing with the Children Program (DWC) in three (3) elementary schools in Edgewood Independent School District to teach Latin ballroom dancing to 90 third grade students. This program now includes Youth Dance Ambassadors, who are DWC graduates who serve as mentors and role models for the 3rd graders.   This highly successful project, a collaborative effort among numerous community partners, is projected to end December 2010. It is a model program ready for replication.

“Dance Therapy” is committed to raising  $50,000 to  ensure the long-term sustainability of  its programs..  Not only will this enable us to continue our three successful community initiatives, it will also allow us the flexibility to explore new, innovative health promotion initiatives to enhance the well-being and health of the community.  “Dance Therapy” stands ready to expand its community impact by broadening its scope of services. To achieve this vision, a significant financial investment is needed from community partners.  We are hopeful that YOU will become a community partner who is willing to  share our vision for growth and sustainability.

Sincerely,

Jorge Alonso Perez
